Karl A. Phillips takes a practical approach in seeing his clients achieve their goals. His practice focuses primarily on business, real estate, financing, entity formation, and wills and estates. He assists businesses with their formation, sale and acquisition, and in real estate transactions. Karl Phillips has extensive experience in reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts, including comprehensive due diligence, title review, and on development matters.
Prior to coming to the firm, Karl Phillips was in house counsel for Erickson Living, a nationally ranked provider of senior continuing care retirement communities (CCRC’s) where he advised the company on development, financial, operations, and risk management matters. Prior to that, he served as a Maryland Assistant Attorney General to the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) where he represented the Department on loans, bonds, and grants, and at hearings before the Maryland Office of Administrative Hearings for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program,
Karl Phillips is admitted to the Maryland Bar and has served as Trustee for Queen Anne’s County Circuit Court in the sale of real property. He received his law degree from the University of Baltimore in 1992, where he wrote for The Law Forum, and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia in 1985. While in law school, he clerked for the Honorable William R. Buchanan and the Honorable John O. Hennegan in the Circuit Court for Baltimore County. He is a native of Annapolis, Maryland.
