FAQ Thursday: Nominal Bonds
At our FAQ Thursday on March 25th, 2021, Mr. Berger discusses what to do if someone is a personal representative and goes to the register of wills office with the Will, but is told they need a nominal bond even though the Will says the "bond is excused".
If requested that a bond doesn’t need to be created by the deceased within their Will for services by the personal representative, then a bond won’t be needed for that purpose. Choosing to do this is usually based off trust of the person they designated. However, the Register of Wills office are concerned about getting their fees which are between 18-25K which costs $100 out of pocket. So therefore, a nominal bond is still required.
