FAQ Friday: Will planning process with adult children
On Friday, August 5th, at 11am EST, Mr. Berger describes the Will Planning Process for Parents with Adult Children.
We want to help you set-up an efficient plan. First step is to either call our office, email Arianna at assistant@bergerwills.com or to go on our website to book your appointment.
We will then send intake forms and an invoice for the meeting fee.
During the meeting we will discuss if a Trust or Will better fits your circumstances. We also discuss non probate assets. Everything jointly owned will pass to the other owner once one passes. However, the Will directs who would own an asset if both individuals pass at the same time.
Personal representatives as part of a Will direct the Will to be followed. Usually with a married couple, you act for each other, then children or siblings beyond that.
Health care directives help make medical decisions when you aren’t capable to do.
We discuss our agreement during the meeting by discussing what we can and cannot do. The fee for a Married couple with children is typically $1899. You will get a credit for the meeting fee of $299 as long as we are hired within 7 days of the meeting.
We then move forward on drafting all the documents necessary and once complete we send via a secure link. You can then review for accuracy and/or any questions that may arise.
Once these documents are signed, we mail the Will to the Register of Wills office. Once we get the receipt, we put electronic copies on a thumb drive as well as give back all of the original documents except for the Will.
Non-probate assets are also really important to think about. Are the beneficiary designations up to date? We could also assist with these documents as well.
