FAQ Friday: Seven things to check annually on your estate plan

On Friday, January 14th at 11 a.m. EST, Mr. Berger discusses which seven things need to be checked and addressed annually on your estate plan.

No major changes changes in the estate law in 2021. We are going forward based on where we are at now.

First thing to check is contact information for everyone named in your Will or Trust documents. Making sure their up to date is important.

Review your family and relationships. Have these changed at all? Have children been born? Family been married?

Third, updating beneficiary designations in case any changes are needed.

Did you open any new accounts in the past year? Or new properties? These need to be accounted for with beneficiaries. Was it titled? Do you want it in your Trust?

Did you get a new job? This could mean new retirement accounts and beneficiaries.

Was there a substantial change in assets? If you are over $5 million this could mean further discussion. Can you still afford care in home? Does Medicaid need to be apart of the plan for that?

Did you make any gifts over $15,000? A gift tax will be needed if so.
