FAQ Friday: How assets pass after death
On Friday, July 15th, at 11am EST, Candice Joy describes the way assets pass after someone dies. She outlines the differences between accounts and/or assets that are titled jointly , in trust or individually.
If you have a jointly titled asset, the asset will pass directly to the other person you are joint with. No probate or administration. It won’t follow your estate plan.
If an asset is within a Trust, then the trustee will categorize all the assets that belong to the Trust and distribute according to the plan put in place by you.
If an asset is not part of your Trust or titled jointly, it will pass according to your Will or by operation of law which is based on your heirs.
